On my fourth day of PFW, I HAD BREAKFAST WITH ANNA WINTOUR! Okay, well sort of! I was invited to preview the MET’s new exhibit – At of the In-Between celebrating Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons at the Place Vendôme in Paris. I woke up at 5am to be at the event by 7:30am. It was a very early start the the longest day I had at Paris Fashion week which you will hear all about in this post.
This years theme was centered around the innovative and risk taking designer Rei Kawakubo who was the mastermind behind Comme des Garçons! When I received my Paris invitation to this even I was so excites I couldn’t contain myself! I am always invited to this even every February in NYC. But to be invited to the preview in Paris was such a treat! Hamish Bowles, Grace Coddington, and Anna Wintour of Vogue plus many other world editors and reporters were all in attendance for the event that took only about thirty minutes in total. It was surprisingly very short although it was really nice seeing everyone from the MET and Vogue, in Paris.
WHAT I WORE:
Coat: Bellfare – Blazer Dress: Layfayette 1984 – Blouse: Shegul – Pants: Forever 21 – Shoes: French Sole – Bag: Milly
After I left the MET presentation I headed back over to the Westin Place Vendome so see Bibhu Mohapatra‘s collection. I was really happy to have bumped into him the night before. It is always happy to see a familiar face in a foreign city. I was also very happy to be viewing the collection since I was not able to make the show in New York City this year! As always, Bubhu’s use of ornate beading and luxurious fabrics wowed and had me wanting to have a ball to attend in order to wear one of his showstopper gowns. It was a really nice morning of fashion and catching up!
After I went to Palais de Tokyo for my next show but realized I was about an hour and a half early so in the true french spirit I found a local cafe and had a cup of coffee! I’m glad I found Chez Francis, a beautiful cafe and restaurant that has the most spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower. I was soaking wet from walking in the rain and found a cozy seat outside under a big awning and heat lamp. It was perfect. What made it even more perfect was the view of the Eiffel Tower which I did not notice until I sat down. I made some phone calls and posted to Instagram while drinking my coffee while basking in my glorious view. It was a real grounding moment for me that I was actually in Paris for Fashion Week.
Naturally, the week had been so busy that it wasn’t till this moment in which I felt really proud of myself for working so hard to make it here. I then headed over to the Palais de Tokyo for the OTTOLINGER & AUGMENT presentation. It was by far the most artistic showcase I had seen all week. Each model was standing in a a pile of mud wearing clothes that looked as if they were torn to shreds but in a very polished manner. It was a mix between alien in the wilderness chic and pottery class. The room filled with dry ice giving the illusion as if you were on another planet. It was pretty cool.
After this show I relaxed in the press lounge and chatted with like minded blogger and stylists. Then I got lunch with a new friend at a cafe. Everything I wanted to order they were out of so I was left with having a hot dog in a pastry filled with cheese and potatoes. It was honestly the most disgusting meal I have ever had, but I needed to eat. (oy vey) Afterwards we headed back to Palais de Tokyo for the Valentin Yudashkin show which was spectacular. I even had a front seat at this show next to Rocco from Fashion News Live. It was fun catching up with him him more from earlier in the week. Yudashkin’s collection was 99% black and one of the most beautiful all black collections I have ever seen. His use of different textures and prints really allowed for each look to pop. The even gowns were also pretty spectacular! With each new model to hit the runway, each look became more exciting and eye pleasing. I would really like to see his collection in more stores in the US. It was also fun seeing fellow French blogger Valerie Sebban of Mademoiselle Valerie and chatting after the show!
That evening, I attended the WhereToGet.it Fashion Week Party at BAM Karaoke bar. It was such a fun night filled with lots of international bloggers sipping rose, eating light bites and singing their hearts out to “Don’t Stop Believing. I really wish I had more fun photos from this event but both my camera and phone batteries died about 15 minutes into the party! I had a blast. Thank you to the Wheretoget.it team for having me.
