On May 18th, 2014 one of my best friends graduated from Law School at the University of Pennsylvania! I was extremely honored and excited that he asked me to join him and his family on his special and exciting day!
My day started with getting early in the morning and heading to the train station to take an Amtrak train to Philadelphia that departed at 9:37am. The hour of travel time to Philly was spent doing my makeup! (Giggles)
As I arrived in Philly I quickly headed out of the train station to hail a taxi. I was a little apprehensive since I have only done this in NYC and was unsure how different it would be! But it was just as simple. So, I hopped in the taxi and headed into downtown Philly to the Music Conservatory where PENN’s graduation took place! The conservatory was exquisite, inside and out! It was such a beautiful day which allowed for the city to glow as bright as all of the soon to be law school graduate’s and their loved ones’ smiles; which were beaming from ear to ear!
It was so lovely to witness another college’s graduation. It was the first time I had been to a graduation that was not my own. Hearing pomp and circumstance play as the graduates walked down the aisle to their assigned seats, listening to the spectacular speeches from faculty, student council members that included not just once but twice “In west Philadelphia born and raised On the playground is where I spent most of my days!!” and inspirational guest speaker Lilly Ledbetter speak about her time dealing with the supreme court fighting the underpayment of women in the workplace, witnessing alumni handing their graduating children and/or spouses their diplomas, and watching graduates take the stage to accept their diplomas with their young children in hand and arms was wonderfully special!
A standing ovation was well deserved for one graduate who completed her studies on time given the fact she had just delivered a set of twins six weeks prior! Wow! That’s ultimate girl power right there!!
After the ceremony the law school held a reception for the graduates and their guests. It was lovely! Lots of fun and happy photo ops , cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres were had! It was also fun meeting my friend’s friends and fellow graduates and reuniting with those I had met and became friendly with previously. It was also really fun trying on and wearing my friends JD cap, as seen in the photos above! It made me feel as if I was an honorary law school grad!! (Haha wishful thinking)
