What a great way to start off fashion week at none other than going to the renowned Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre. As a former dancer I really appreciated how NOLCHA (designer agency) took the elements of a NYC dance company and incorporated the art of fashion for a sophisticated yet fresh feel. Riding the elevator with dancers of all ages want too shabby either! The reason I was at the Nolcha shows was to view Colombian designer Carlos Luna. This was actually first show I attended during NYFW.
As I stood online I ran into an old college friend who I hadn’t seen in a few years. It was nice to catch up with her. Ironically, we were also seated next to each other at the show which made for a more enjoyable time.
Luna presented his third professional collection this season, Fall 2012. He explained how he was inspired by the Argentinian Tango – also making the dance theatre perfect for the designers backdrop. If you are familiar with the tango you know that it is a dance that exudes a large amount of passion, romance, & sophistication! This is what I felt come through the fiber of the presentation.
Along with being very sexy, there were many sweet feminine qualities to the garments. It consisted of formfitting garments that had asymmetrical cuts & color-blocking and beautifully draped dresses that resembled the dream of an Argentinian graceful urban ballet! All in all – the collection had an edge.
MY FAVORITE LOOK OF THE COLLECTION WAS THIS BEAUTIFUL BLACK & WHITE FLOWEY EVENING GOWN!!
AMAZING FRONTAL KEY HOLE CUT OUT AND SKIRT SLIT – VERY APPROPRIATE FOR A NIGHT OUT DOING THE ARGENTINIAN TANGO AT A GALA OR A RED CARPET! OLAY!!
Special thanks to friend Isaiah Garza of MunsterPR for inviting me to the Carlos Luna Fall 2012 Show!
I look forward to seeing this budding designer next season!
