On January 22, 2010 in Paris the statement portrayed through Stefano Pilati for YSL menswear F/W 2010/2011 collection was SKINNY EVERYTHING! Male models strutted down the runway in skinny suits, super tight leather jackets, and to top it off ties that were even skinnier than a female supermodels arm. As a contrast to all the formfitting garments were larger overcoats with soft rounded shoulders and for the very brave heterosexual (or not) man bib-front wool overalls and flannel harem pants that reminded me of a modern-day, futuristic lumberjack and Aladdin. I guess it’s a whole new world with YSL this season even though Pilati is keeping to his french roots with the detail in construction and free-flowing drapery. The color theme is somber and dark with lots of shades of gray and tones of black.
Another trend I have seen flood the runways at the Menswear F/W 2010-2011 shows are scarfs tucked into a jacket that end a few inches below with lots and lots of fringe. My favorite look of this collection would have to be a very gray number consisting of a chunky wool knit turtle-neck sweater, flannel slacks and matching gloves. I’m guessing with all the layering going on, YSL is predicting a frigged forecast in our future. Bébé, il fait froid dehors!!! (Baby it’s cold outside!)
